An Award Ceremony for First year students from Our Lady’s College was held on Tuesday 14th March, following their phenomenal success at the Indoor Rowing Blitz, in UL on 1st March 2017.
Our Lady’s College, the newly amalgamated college of the Mercy Secondary and the Presentation Secondary came out in force for the UL Rowing Blitz on 1st of March. Twenty 1st year students travelled to Limerick with their T.Y. coaches and teachers.
All five teams performed very well on the day thanks to their T.Y. coaches (All rowing with GRC) and Jen Cunningham from “Get Going, Get Rowing”, an initiative by Rowing Ireland to encourage young people to get involved in the sport. According to Ms. Cunningham “OLCG are one of the biggest success stories from the Connacht “Get Going Get Rowing” programme! Great praise and deservedly so – the final relay team from OLCG beat their nearest competitors by 18 seconds! Not bad for their first event!
Due to a mix-up on the day, the OLCG team were not awarded on the day and received the following acknowledgement:
“We would like to give a special mention to Our Lady’s College, Galway who were incredibly sportsmanlike with the mix up over their win. They won by such a large margin they were 4 seconds off the winning second year time”.
Presenting the award and medals was Mike Heskin , Director of Sports at NUIG.
