The School Crest tells a story of a thousand words: The design of the new school crest is based on the idea of two swans united, symbolising the coming together of both schools whose origins lie by the River Corrib. Swans represent union and balance, partnership and transformation, all of these elements are significant in this forthcoming journey.
These swans rest side by side under the Fleur de Lis, the Flower of the Lily. The Fleur de Lis is used by the Catholic Church as an emblem of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Blessed Virgin Mary is a central component in both the ethos of the Mercy and the Presentation Sisters. The Fleur de Lis symbol also signifies loyalty, protection, light and life.
The name ‘Our Lady’s College Galway’ carefully links the two swans and gently glides them over the waters of renewal, promise and hope. Above, a halo radiates brightly blessing all involved in this new chapter.
