House System

Our Lady's College House System

The House System is designed to encourage greater participation by both pupils and staff in the extra curricular life of the school. It aims:

To improve motivation to succeed and develop leadership and organisational skills

To improve attendance in school and at extra curricular activities

To improve behaviour and create a positive school spirit

To promote a healthy competitive school environment with an emphasis on participation and achievement

How it works

The whole school, from 1st – 6th year, is divided into four groups called ‘Houses’

Each House is led by a Captain, Vice Captain and a Guidance Group

Students will belong to the same House throughout  their schooling

Points are gained for the House throughout the year and at the end of the year, the House that has accumulated the highest number of points is awarded the Inter-House Cup

At the end of each term, the leading House gets a reward

Merit Cards

Any member of staff can award students a Merit Card if the student demonstrates any of the following  four values:

  • Co-operative
  • Responsible
  • Organised
  • Helpful

Students can earn House Points for the following:

  • Merit Cards
  • Attendance at extra-curricular activities
  • Attendance at inter-house competitions & events
  •  Interhouse ‘best attendance at school’ per term
  •  SPORTS DAY – The major end of year event
