TAG IT in the Community Award goes to…. IBM 🙂 The judges said that it was chosen for its focus on practical skills and the long-lasting impact it has on participants
2018 marked the 10th year of IBM Galway’s collaboration with Business in the Community (BITC). Together we have run an annual Skills at Work program for the 5th Year LCVP students in Our Lady’s College, Galway. During the program, students come to the IBM offices to receive presentations from technical IBMers including software developers, testers, product owners, and technical writers. Each presenter tells their career story, and demonstrates to the students the wide variety of paths, courses and roles that have lead them to their current positions. Students also get to see the presenters at work so they get insight into the day to day activities in each of the technical roles. In addition, IBMers visit the school and deliver workshops, both STEM focused, for example, how to create and protect your online identity, and career focused, for example CV workshops and mock interviews.
